What to Wear

Our ordering system automatically selects the appropriate regalia for your degree and qualification. There are a wide range of "real life" scenarios however, so if you are graduating with multiple awards, hold prior qualifications or are otherwise unsure of what you should wear, please read the information below.

Certificate

A bachelor gown only.

If you already hold a degree you may choose to wear the regalia of that degree instead.
(In this case you should enter the information for that degree when using our ordering system.)

Diploma

A bachelor gown and a Massey stole.

If you already hold a degree or are also graduating with a degree you have the choice of wearing either:

  • ~ the regalia listed above as well as a trencher
  • ~ the regalia of your degree (in this case enter your degree details when ordering)

Note: It is not practicable to change between hood and stole during a ceremony and you may not wear both at the same time.

Bachelor Degree

A bachelor gown, a bachelor hood and a trencher.

Bachelor (Honours) Degree

A bachelor gown, a bachelor (honours) hood and a trencher.

The following Bachelor with Honours degrees do not wear an honours hood as they are undergraduate degrees:

  • Engineering
  • Fine Arts
  • Music
  • Social Work
  • Technology

If you are graduating with one of the above Bachelor with Honours degrees, our ordering system will automatically assign you the correct Bachelor hood.

Conjoint or Double Bachelor Degree

A bachelor gown, a bachelor hood and a trencher.

You will need to decide whether you will attend one ceremony or both ceremonies.

  • If attending only one ceremony: choose which of the two bachelor hoods to wear.
  • If attending both ceremonies: you may wear the same hood to both ceremonies or the relevant hood for each ceremony.
Important
  • ~ Regardless of whether you are attending one ceremony or both, you need to decide which of the two bachelor hoods to wear at each ceremony. You may not wear two hoods at once during a ceremony.
  • ~ You may hire both hoods for photographic purposes.
  • ~ If relevant, wear the hood of the higher qualification (e.g. If you are receiving a Bachelor degree and a Bachelor with Honours degree, you should wear the Bachelor with Honours hood).
